Sherrill's Nuclear Nightmare
What Were They Thinking With This Visual? A Scene From Dr. Strangelove.
(Source: video from NJ Gov. Sherrill’s Office, broadcast by NJ Spotlight)
How is the public supposed to trust this political shit show to protect ratepayers and public health and the environment?
What the hell were the Sherrill press people thinking by staging this technological nuclear backdrop for a bill signing?
How twisted is that “vision”?
It’s like something out of Dr. Strangelove or Eraserhead.
In strong contrast, I was hired by former DEP Commissioner Brad Campbell and one of my first projects was helping the DEP press Office select a visually appealing site for Gov. McGreevey to hold a press conference announcing the DEP’s “Category One Waters” initiative.
We chose a gorgeous overview of the Round Valley Reservoir, with shimmering water foreground and a forested mountain backdrop to convey the Governor’s vision and values, and highlight the important natural resources of NJ that required additional regulatory protections.
How far we’ve fallen in the 24 years since then, for Gov. Sherrill to think she can promote this twisted technological horror show as progress!
This is a technological dystopia run wild.
It is being funded by the AI and Silicon Valley billionaire tech bro’s, and corporate nuclear.
In terms of Gov. Sherrill’s twisted statement at this horror show, in another astonishing Orwellian lie, she blamed GOVERNMENT for the nuclear industry’s failure to develop a safe method to dispose of their nuclear waste: (at time 4:30)
For too long, outdated laws have kept us from even considering new nuclear facilities.
One law required any new projects to point to a method of disposal that quite literally does not exist.
It was written in the 1970’s, tied to a technological requirement that made sense then, but not today.
It’s a textbook example of the kid of inefficient government that I ran to change.
That statement is a LIE - a textbook example of historical revisionism and political opportunism.
To blame “inefficient government” and “red tape” for the nuclear industry’s failure to develop a safe method to dispose of their nuclear waste is obscene.
And she called the nuclear power industry “fail safe”.
I was working on a post on the Gov.’s Nuclear Task Force and the fact that she is shilling for the nuclear industry, who specifically requested this legislative repeal last year in comments submitted to the Murphy BPU’s “Request for Information”, but I’m so appalled that I’ve got nothing more to say right now, other than I’m beginning to loathe this Governor and her repeated lies and twisted vision.
[End Note: Take a look at this screen shot. Look at the cheerleading by Acting DEP Commissioner Potosnak.
It is totally inappropriate for the DEP Commissioner, who “independently” regulates the nuclear power industry, to be championing their “new” technology and expansion plans. Also look at the BPU President (I met her when she was a volunteer at Sierra Club opposing garbage incinerators!), who is supposed to “independently”regulate the economic profits of PSE&G. Again, totally unacceptable.
How is the public supposed to trust this political shit show to protect ratepayers and public health and the environment?

Bless you Bill. How long to wait for environmental organization leaders in NJ to call this out!? Absolutely no justification. What about the long construction timeline. No mention. Dangers no mention. How it answers the short term supply problem no mention.
