And summertime was falling down and winter was closing in
Now the warriors of winter they gave a cold triumphant shout
And all that stays is dying and all that lives is getting out
See the geese in chevron flight flapping and racing on before the snow
They've got the urge for going and they've got the wings so they can go
They get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown ~~~ Tom Rush version (1968)
I got the urge for going and I got the wings to go.
After a long summer of some joy but much suffering (we lost our best friend Bouy, a 12 and a half year old lab on June 20), we head out today for the long adventure to our winter desert home.
Although that awesome dog can never be replaced (tribute forthcoming), we are excited and can't wait to pick up a new fox red lab puppy next week.
We'll post photos of our new puppy pal and the summer's scenes over the next weeks.
I'm sorry for your loss, and feel much empathy, being well familiar with the strength of such connections and indeed, integral parts of our lives. I hope the transition to your winter home is smooth and pleasant.
Bill - Just as my wife and I are on the point of flying in to Vancouver - this coming Wednesday - and after a night - moving on to Vernon on upper Lake Okanagan - you are following the geese! The closest to your winter desert base we might be will likely still be far distant - late October Denver to early November Salt Lake City - (then back to Vancouver and on to home by mid-November. That you have lost Bouy is sad - but I'm sue you will memorialise him in your tribute - and a new puppy to add as a member of your canine family. Safe travels to the south...
