Elites Say The Number One Risk To The World Is "Misinformation And Disinformation"
The Top Recommended Solution Is "Censorship And Surveillance"
I tend to ignore those who focus on the World Economic Forum (WEF) to spout all sorts of absurd and paranoid interpretations and spin conspiracy theories, a tendency unfortunately that has expanded into the climate debate.
But I was just stunned to read the WEF’s 2024 Global Risks Report and note that the over 1,500 “experts” surveyed by WEF identified “misinformation and disinformation” as the #1 risk to the world!
The World Economic Forum just issued a Report and press release that warned:
“Misinformation and disinformation is the most severe short-term risk the world faces.”
Finding that press release claim hard to believe, I downloaded and read the Report’s methodology and findings.
What I read was even worse.
The number one ranked risk management method is - ... wait for it - "censorship and surveillance". Seriously. Check out Figure 3.1 on page 86 (see chart above):
Top global risks addressed by National and local regulations
“Which approach(es) do you expect to have the most potential for driving action on risk reduction and preparedness over the next 10 years?”
Censorship and surveillance (64%)"
From the Ukraine proxy war, to the rise of Russia, China and BRICS multipolarity, to the Israeli genocide on the Palestinians, the mask is off and the global elites are doing everything in their power (that’s their own words) to control the narrative and crackdown on free speech and activism: (read Chapter 3 - Responding to global risks):
Both the degree of complexity and the speed of the global risks discussed in this report will demand flexible and agile approaches that employ all available levers at our disposal. […]
Public awareness and education initiatives can be effective in reducing the impact of AI-enabled misinformation on local media environments. While it is difficult for single countries to control the diffusion of AI-generated content, it is in their power to include AI-literacy in public education systems and to prioritize the issues of understanding AI’s capabilities and identifying trustworthy sources of information.
And “all available levers at our disposal“ explicitly include “censorship and surveillance”.
Not even Orwell thought the folks with the boot on our faces would openly admit that.
